Two and a half months still going strong
Well I've been shaving with a straight for two and a half month now and thought I'd give a small recap..
These are probably the worst mistakes I've made so far:
-at first I just stropped on CrO before every shave.. this is why my shaveready Crown is in need of a touchup
-I hurried while I was shaving with a straight=bloody
-I made lather that was to dry and that didnt help my left hand shaving my cheeks..I was doing it slow then..
-I moved my face while the razor was on my skin=blood was drawn.
The good things I did:
-I bought three vintage straights from marktplaats (local ebay) and they are great shavers
-sent one razor to Bart for honing.
-learned to be patient while honing and not getting frustrated.. if its not good I wont shave any further and pickup the shavette or other straight to finish off and try again. no big deal..
-I learned how to get a great shave with the shavette and real straights.. BBS and comfortable.
-I learned how to stretch my skin so that the skin under my chin ends up higher and makes it easier to shave.
so Whats next.
-I'm still not done learning how to hone
-With all my razors sharp I still need to figure out what razors I like best
-I'll buy more razors and fix them up.(realy like doing that)
-I need to rescale the razor I got from the clasifieds... The scales do not match the beauty of the blade.
-I also need to rescale the Dorko so it has scales that fit better.
- I need a new Brush
-try other soaps/creams..
what would I have done differently if time travel was possible..
-I wouldnt have started with a shavette.. I love it now and use it quite often but as a first straight... I dont know
-I wouldnt have bought a loomstrop
-I would have started with a straight 15 years ago!
All in all I'm pretty satisfied with all the things I have learned the last couple of months.. It was actualy easier than I expected and the results are that I enjoy shaving more that I've ever done before...
I want to thank everybody overhere who has helped me to get started with this.
