Exclamation New to straights - sharpening services in europe?

Well, I've got right NOW my first 2 razors.

One is a DOVO stainless with micarta ivory with that known pattern on the blade
and the other is a very cheap one that I bought for when my hones arrive.

    Both have factory edges!

    now,

the cheap is not redy to shave. I'll leave it to get honing skills.
The DOVO I could shave my moustache with it, but not perfectlly, I guess I could go farther
with a bit more work. I'll leave that to later.
Also I'm sure it can be sharpened more!

    2 questions:

-Who can hone my DOVO in europe? I'm in Portugal, so a near guy would be perfect.
-I'm trying to search about the shaving angle, but search doesn't return much! How you guys find the perfect angle for shaving?

    Hi & welcome!

For the angle, 30 degrees. This is approx two spines width as an easy guide. Check out the classifieds for member services.
They can certainly be far sharper than you will have received them. You'll be amazed!
Enjoy learning. It's a very satisfying method of shaving & as you make progress you'll just enjoy it more!

Classifieds first as already noted above, and off the top of my head 2 members come to mind Bart and Poona you might try a PM to them and see if they are able to help you out....

    Thanks for the replys!

While shaving I've tryied different angles, but found that should be around it: 20-30 degrees.

Yeah, I can shave with it, but I'm sure after beeing honed by someone I'll be amazed.

I'll be heading for classifieds then!

    Hello and welcome, fellow countryman!
I suggest you contact Steven Dempster (blueprinciple) via Introduction to razors. He is a pleasure to do business with, a true gentleman and can put a killer edge on a razor.
In the meantime... I suppose you could contact anyone of us portuguese fellows. Maybe there's something we can do concerning technique and other stuff. Ask questions!

And gee... am I glad to see the portuguese community getting bigger and bigger! Three of us now?! This will look like New Jersey in no time!

Oh... very important thing: do you have a strop? That is very important... Some times a razor can pull a bit and feel a bit under par, but after a good stropping it turns out to be quite sharp, actualy.

You'll be VERY pleased with an edge honed by one of the pros here. I've not had one honed by Bart personally, but I have faith in all of the honemeister's skills.

Welcome to the straight path... please stay on the path so you won't get lost..and have FUN..

I've had one honed by Bart as well and it was great!! The razor talks to the whiskers and they voluntarily leave my face..
