Jumping in !
I just ordered my first SR! - Professionally Sharpened Dovo Imitation Tortoise Shell, 5/8" and also a Dovo Best Russian Leather Hanging Strop from SRD.
Now I can't wait - I just hope I don't slice my nose off ...!

Great start there! Welcome.
You won't slice your nose off. You're far more likely to remove an earlobe!
It's got a largely unfounded reputation for danger, so you'll be fine. Just make sure you don't let it out that it's pretty safe, or you'll ruin the macho image we've cultivated!

No chance. By all accounts you've made a good choice. Lightness of touch is everything. Oh, and blade angle. Oh, and facial preparation. Oh, and welcome, and enjoy yourself (loads of great info on this site, if you're not sure, ask and some good person will come up with the goods).

There are a number of instructional videos on how to build lather, strop your razor and shave with a straight around. Also Lynn has a DVD that may answer a lot of questions that you may have. Also, there are a lot of people here always eager to help others. Good luck and let us know how it works for your.
