    Default Getting better...

Been a lurker here for quite a while but wanted to finally post with a good progress report.

So I've been at this for about 2 months and I *think* I'm finally starting to get some consistency and I'm much more relaxed with the blade. Feels like such a victory to just be able to do a 2-pass shave with my TI blade and not end up with a cut where I touched the blade to my face at the wrong angle.

A question for the pros: I've been experimenting with using pre-shave oil and I don't seem to get as close of a shave when I use it (I only use a few drops). Anybody else seen this?

Thanks to all the great postings from the members - you've been a huge help.

i haven't used preshave oil, but some guys like it
if that's the only factor you vary and you get worse results with it than without i'd say try it for a week and if you're certain it doesn't work for you at the moment revisit it in another month or so.

    Welcome!

I don't use pre-shave oil, but I have heard reports of it not leading to as close of a shave. Just try going without it and see what happens! Beard-prep is such a personal thing.....

It sounds like you're definitely on the right track so far! Keep it up

I only recommend it for those that use a shavette. A pro barber once told me it was essential for the shavette and useless for a traditional straight. I would have to defer to his suggestion that the shavette is too rough on the skin without the oil. A traditional razor simply doesn't need it.

Welcome to SRP ! I've never tried pre shave oil so no help from me. Masi is a great bike. Never had one but I do ride a '73 Raleigh Pro and an '83 Gios Torino when I am not on my Moots mountain bike. Smooth shaving !
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome to SRP. I would skip the pre-shave oil too. I would recommend Proraso pre/post shave cream though. I've been using it lately, feels great on the face and I believe I get a better shave out of it too.
