Thanked: 0A new victim
hello!
introducing myself from Finland. Got a straight razor as a christmas present from a friend who had started to shave with one. he sharpened it (‘honed’ is the word?) for me, so I got into an easy start. I’m not the most patient person in the world, so I shaved my whole face and head (I’m bald) the first time I used the razor. Later I discovered how fortunate I was to own such a sharp razor, thanks to my friend. Took me two hours, but the experience was of such nature that now it feels impossible to even think about returning to… well, been O.K. only few cuts (mainly in the back of the head) and skin feels great. But not going against the grain yet and having some trouble keeping the razor sharp, though. Been using a leather belt and newspaper, but pressing too hard sometimes, I think. Anyway, I’m aboard!

Welcome to SRP Petolk . You have more guts then I have. I have never had occasion to shave my head but that would be more then I would take a chance on for my first straight razor shaving experience.
In case you haven't come across it here is a good beginning read and here is the video section of the forum. Smooth shaving to you.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 0thanx!
yeah, of course I was scared and it didn't help that I haven't found too much information on headshaving with a straight razor. but after shaving my face I think I was too excited to stop there. I just took a deep breath, said my prayers and also this guy was a big help. If somebody else has some tips, I would be grateful. the back of the head and especially behind the ears are quite difficult.

You are one hardcore SOB! That's a pretty big pair of brass ones you've got, taking on the entire head first try.
I, like Maarten, am trying in vain to keep as much on top as possible, but from my few occasions of shaving my head I can say that I have very little interest in taking a straight to it.
I'm hoping to be one of "those" friends in a couple months- maybe give out a couple of straights as birthday presents.
