I have been having trouble with my neck as well. I have been working a lot on stretching the skin and using short down strokes then if possible going with xtg strokes. The hair on my neck grows in about 4 different directions and my adams apple sticks way out so I have a lot of fun with my neck.

There is a way to get the adam's apple. Take a good swallow & hold it. When you swallow the adam's apple will move upwards. You can actually get it to stay there if you hold the swallow, shave where it was, then release. It does take practise though! Be careful at first, because if you release & the blade's still there it can get messy!

I shave down on the first pass then up on the second. I then shave down again on the third pass. I don't know how you would shave across without cutting your throat. I make faces to stretch the skin.

Thanked: 1195I don't think there's anything wrong with a XTG pass on the neck first. I have sideways growth all over my neck just like many others, and it just doesn't make sense to attempt WTG as a first pass. I have fairly sensitive skin I guess, and this technique has yet to cause irritation, but that's just me.

I have a lot of hollows and nooks and crannies on my neck. I do a down pass and then on the second pass some up and some oblique. It took me over a month to go anything but down on the neck.
I gradually started figuring out different directions that worked for problem areas. I stretch sideways (pulling a hollow into the adjacent flat area) sometimes.
I also started shaving at the back side of my neck first. I figured out that it would get the lather off of a good place from which to stretch the skin on the more difficult areas.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 9The adams apple is simple to get: just pull the skin on the AA to either side of the AA so it is flat and then shave the skin. release it and it will go back on top of the AA. Simple and no irritation.

It will help too if you hold your skin in the opposite direction of your stroke. This will hold the whiskers in place to be shaved closer.
