What a Shave!
Here it goes.
I have been having so much fun today. I recieved my Jack Black brush this AM and was so pleased with the quality. The only thing is....I wanted to use it. But I did not have my shaving soaps and creams from Collene yet. So off to work I go for an hour.
Upong arriving back home I met the mail man who was carying two packages. One was Collenes sample pack and the other was a box from my mother in NY. In this box was my great Grandpas straight razors. One of these razors was shave ready and in great condition. (Utica Cutlery Co. Solingen-Germany THE LEADER) Off to the bathroom I wet. Mixed up my first batch of shaving lather from a puck of Sandalwood that was made with tender loving care by Collene. What a smell this was! Placed the hot lather on my face and started cutting away at those pesky little whiskers that have been growing for way to long. The shave was great from my great grandpas razor.
This first real attempt at shaivng was shuch a pleasure. All of the trade tools worked far beyond my expectations. My skills at this first shave were also better that expected. I seem to have a knack for using both hands and getting a great shave. First shave was WTG and next was ATG. I have never felt so smooth!
I dont think this transition into straight razors would have been pleasurable without all the knowledge from this site and members. Thankyou everyone!

You know that feeling when you purchased your first car, house, had the first kiss, etc.....this beats them all! I have goose bumps. Im hooked for life. All my friends keep saying the same thing. "Yer gonna cut your throat!"
Boy were they wrong. I went yesterday to try and have one of my razors honed at a local barber shop that was reported to do some straight razor shaving. The darn guy tried to talk me out of it and further told me that he preferred the straight razors that take the disposable insert. I was shocked. He then proceded to tell me that I would not like shaving with a straight razor seeing as I have no experience and that I would never learn to hone my own razors. Some old school barber that was!!!!
