Thanked: 4942I don't think I recall a TI that ever shaved out of the box although there must be one out there somewhere. I have honed hundreds of TI's and they always turn out to be nice shavers. A honed one should last, if used daily for 2-3 months and then will probably only require touch ups for quite some time. Some chromium oxide or .5 micron diamond paste or spray would do the job. A barbers hone might work as well.
Have fun,
Lynn

I presume this razor is one of the "new" steel TI's. These have a capitol letter stamped on the tang on the back side. So is there any difference in honing the new steel compared to the older TI's?

AOS TI
I have one of these and love it. It honed nicely for me and retains an exceptional edge. If you bought it at a local AOS store then you might check with them about getting it shave ready. Otherwise send it to a honemaster. If you don't have experience you might do more harm attempting it. You might learn on a lesser blade.
I use the DMT 008 and a chinese waterstone for my honing needs. I've been through the 4/8K and find that the DMT and Chinese are all I need. I have a 1k that I have used to deal with some damaged blades bought off EBAY. I maintain the blades with stropping with linen and leather. After 1 year doing this, I have not needed to rehone any str8's I have gotten shave ready. However, I rotate about 40 str8's as I not certain which i will end up keeping.
