Col. Conk razor blade???
I've seen Col. Conk supplies such as soaps, creams, mugs etc on the site and around the internet but not razor blades. There is a Col. Conk straight razor in town and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this brand of blade. I've also been looking at kits which include the blade, brush, strop etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginner on which kit is a good buy?
Thanks in advance,

I have a Col. Conk razor, strop, and hone. The hone is worthless for str8s, too coarse. I use the strop but it is awfully short (about 18") and I want to get a better, longer strop soon. The razor was my first str8, purchased long before I found this site. The tang and monkey tail are uncomfortable in my hand. I recommend you look at the razors in the classifieds or just get a shave ready Dovo. Their soap is okay but I won't buy any more Col. Conk products.

Thanks Dave,
The blade in town is $189 and I've been researching this for a while now. I just bought a kit from vintage blades that comes with a shave ready Dovo. As I said earlier, I haven't heard or seen anything on the Colonels blades but see an awful lot on Dovo, Boker, etc. pretty much anything but the Colonel. Thanks for your input.

You'll be happy with your shave ready Dovo from VB. The Col. Conk str8s are made by Dovo and mine looks like my Dovo Special, with different scales and etching. The Dovo, however, is finished better than the Col. Conk. The edges of the tang and monkey tail on the Col. Conk are not smoothed like the Dovo, so the Col. Conk is sharp and uncomfortable to my fingers.
I'll be interested to see if any other Col. Conk razor owners post here.

I have the Col's starter kit. I honed it up and shave with it. It works well. I think though that you can get other blades that are probably better for cheaper.

The white Arkansas stone from Col. Conk is not bad. I would not shave off it, but it works pretty well as a sharpening stone after a bevel setter.
