    Default Starting over

I got into str8s in college and put them away for lack of a place to understand them and how to use them.

I got into SE and DE shaving which was easier to understand.

So now my problem is that the passes that I have been using for some time do not seem to translate to str8 shaving.

Now I REALLY have a problem with my weak hand and I cannot seem to figure my right side jaw line. It doesn't appear to want to behave as the other.

I am working on the neck and the chin. Razor burn is less and less with each day but the face and jaw are giving me fits.

I generally use the Nassur passes. The old school style. Which I think divides the face and neck into 15 some strokes.

That's a good way to start. It really helps to divide the face into sections, develop a routine and go from there.

I don't know how long you have been straight razor shaving but starting from square one this post by Lynn might be helpful. I used a DE for the tough places for a couple of weeks before I put it away for good. It took me awhile to figure out my facial map and how to manipulate the razor in different directions but it came with time.

Having a truly shave ready razor is important too. The previous DE experience gave me the advantage of having the prep and multiple pass learning curve behind me. It was just a matter of patience and persistence in developing my skills with the straight and I am still learning after a year of shaving daily exclusively with a straight.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    +1 on what Jimmy said.

It will get better with time if you stay with it and use a sharp razor.
