Thread: Determining Strop Quality

As someone new to straight razor shaving I have some questions about strops.

How do you determine if a strop is worth the sale price? Specifically, what attributes would set a 'quality' strop apart from a 'cheap' strop? Are there any brand names to avoid? Does the length and width of a strop factor into whether a strop is worth purchasing?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

probably Tony Miller should be the one to answer this but I would say substantial thickness in the leather. Totally smooth with no wrinkles or fat marks. Good tanning and finishing and substantial hardware.

I think Tony Millers are the gold bar of strops, however that is not saying other brand name strops that places like classicshaving sells are bad they just generally aren't as good as Tony's but are fine strops, you do want to stay away from no name strops found on ebay and some older strops on there as well
