    Default Manhattan Straight Razor

I have my eye on this beauty on eBay but its still too early see if I get out bidded. In the mean time anyone have a place(s) in Manhattan I can go poke around for an antique straight razor? It will be my first personal straight razor, I want it to be special. I'm going to hone it myself as well.

I think you'll get the common wisdom on here is not to attempt honing your first razor. Get one you know is sharp, or buy one and have it honed so you know what the benchmark is. Learning to shave is hard enough without starting with an imperfect blade.

    welcome to srp,
Shaveready eBay razors are pretty rare and if you try to hone it yourself the chance for a shaveready razor the first time does not look too good. I would clean the razor up and send it to a honemeister. Learn to shave and by the time your razor needs a touch-up learn to hone.

    Goodluck and have fun,

    Maarten
