I think the whole resting thing is complete fiction. Where did it come from? Was it something that was merely discussed, or is it base on actual fact? If you shaved at 6am i can't see any reason not to use the same blade at 6pm if you wanted to.

No later than 6 am. It has been out all night partying.
I have never heard of resting a razor. I can understand rotating them to avoid overuse and extend life, resting?

When I started straight razor shaving, I used one razor every day for about two months.
Not a problem.

My barber uses the same blade every 20 minutes, but around 6 PM he lets it rest for about 15 hrs and 20 minutes. Sometimes more.

Are there any labor laws on the exploitation of str8s? We would not want to violate any of those.
Maybe that is why razors cur people, they are angry that they have not had a break. Been working 5 or 6 days a week with no time off for the kids and family.

I'd be too tired to shave if I was up that early two days running.

Thanked: 278I'm wondering if this started as a way to ensure razors had time to completely dry between uses.
But my money is still on it being a marketing gimmick, a way to make people buy more razors back in the day.
