Thanked: 1Help with Neck
Newbie here just getting to the point where I can go ATG on my face, just below the jawline and on my lower neck (below the Adam's apple) ending up [close to] BBS. What I just can't figure out is how to get the same smooth result from just below the jaw down to the Adam's apple. I don't know if my hair is in a wierd pattern but it grows out from the Adam's apple to the back of the jaw (so that going straight up or straight down is actually XTG) and I can't figure out how to go ATG without butchering myself. I've looked around but haven't been able to find anything that helps. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

you have to go diagonal. check the videos in my signature, you can see what I mean by a diagonal pass.

i have the same problem and have found that ATG is basically much to risky
to be worth it. i find that going straight down, then straight up gets most of it, then i do touch up which is usually a diagonal stroke then ends up being parallel to the jaw line. for me the hair seems to grow from left to right mostly and then on the left side there is a part that grows up. i find as long as i am careful and don't get crazy with the pressure it works good.

Thanked: 1Jockeys,
Thank you so much! Great video... I tried the diagonal pass and Wow! what a difference! Was a little nervous at first and of course still need practice but I ended up with only one small nick and a neck almost as smooth as the rest of my face.
Now to try to follow your honing vid...
Thanks again!

Same problem and the same solution more or less. I have nooks, crannies and hollows in my neck and I have found that some spots I have to pull an area until it flattens out to get it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I still have problems shaving my neck at times, as the grain of the hair there grows funny.... When I shave the areas to the right of my adams apple, I pull the skin directly to the side, so the skin is taught, and shave VERY lightly. I never go ATG there, but a slightly diagonal pass does the trick. I find sufficiently stretching the skin gets it very close, as long as you use a super light touch.

Jockeys, I just watched the vids, you make it look so easy, my girl said your a good shaver. I just had my first shave yesterday I was able to do my entire face with no problems but after watching the vid I think I will do a little better next time.

I have the same growth on each side of the Adam's Apple: outward toward the sides. For what it's worth, I'm having good results from this grip: index and middle fingers on the edge-side of the tang, thumb on the spine-side, stretching down on the skin with the other hand. Here's a pic. In practice, I think I'm keeping the blade flat or nearly flat against the skin for this pass. (I don't know whether I'm handling the jpeg file properly. If it doesn't work, I'll edit and try again.)
