Straight Razor Design are run by Don and Lynn from the site here, yes and I'm sure you'd get an excellent razor from them.
A Wapienica from Invisibleedge would be a great first razor. Mine has a blade at least as good as any of my more expensive razors although the weight of the scales takes a little getting used to. It sounds as though you're on a good path.

I think that's a really good place to start. There a quite a few guys here that keep their wapi's in rotation even after they "upgrade". Welcome to SRP
