    Default straight razor sharpening

Will an Arkansas stone do good for honing a straight razor? I've never honed one before so I don't really know.

Welcome to SRP. Most guys I have read on the topic say it is probably too rough and slow cutting to be suited to a razor. I have no personal experience. If you go to the toolbar above and look to the left click on the Wiki icon. Downpage you will find info on honing and shaving. Lots of tutorials in there to point you in the right direction and videos here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The translucent white is a great finisher, slow cutting and hard, The other arkansas stones are OK for certain applications, but not a good choice for razor honing. Don't believe what people say about the translucent white - particularly when they mention its low grit rating - grit ratings don't apply much to novaculite stones like this.

A huge thanks to everyone who replied. Any input is much appreciated. I really prefer to hone them myself just because of the no. of razors I have. Where can I find a Norton 4k/8k hone?
