Spike Virgin
As a fellow newbie who's also only shaved with rounded Str8s I can sympathize, but just acquired a vintage Boker spike point, which I spent the last day cleaning, stropping & polishing.
Looks lke she had enough of an edge left on her that I was able to bring it back with just the pasted strop paddle, linen & leather - we're about to find out!

I started out shaving with a spike point. I now have a couple of razors, one of which is a round point. I like the round point because the hair on my neck grows sideways, so going against the grain is easier with that. However, my spike points are still my favs. I have a pretty well defined goatee and sideburns, and it allows me to do really fine detail work.

Square point, round point, I like them all. A round point "rides the tube" under my jawline down to my neck which a spike can't do without the tip nicking me. Spikes do give me love bites on my ears every now and then, but often I don't even notice until after the shave. I still shave with both kinds and like them.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I think a round point is easier for a first razor, but a square point isn't as scary as one might think. It would have been truly sad if I would have passed on my Henckels because of the square point. Sad for me, but I'm sure someone else would have taken advantage of it.
