If it's a brand new Dovo strop it should be fine without any preparation, it's just as they get older they might need a bit of the yellow paste to keep them supple. Remember to take it slowly to begin with to avoid damage. It'll probably happen at some point, though. so don't be too upset when it does.

I find a little baby oil will do when it gets a bit old and needs some tlc. But brand new I think you should just be able to use it straight away.

I feel, on the most part, that strop conditioning is a personal preferrence. Unless the strop is really worse for wear, conditioning it just makes it a little more supple and gives it a little more draw. But some people like more draw, and some like less. It's just a matter of what you like.

If you like how your strop feel and it works well for you, then no need to condition! But if you want it a little more supple and a bit more draw, just rub in a bit of the strop conditioner with the palm of your hand and work it in. Just use a little at first if you need it, as you can always add more!

...and work it with the palm of your hand whenever you're passing. The natural oils from your skin will do it no harm - it is, after all, skin!

+1 on that! I rub my strop before I use it every time, it's an easy way to keep it supple.
