Will a 6000 grit stone put a sufficient shaving edge on a blade.

The real answer is

It depends.

It depends on your expectations, hair, hone, skill, technique, method, style, and etc

I think if that's all there were most could adapt.
To some rouge, like diamond spray or cromox; the difference between 6k/8k is not so much. right?

Without those though atg is the prize, never mind bbs. for me any way. I haven't pursued that direction, but I have seen enough to believe 6k is high enough to start paste stropping.

If you have tough skin, 6000 may be enough. But most would agree that finishing on a 8000 or higher is needed. But I'm sure there are people who can get away with finishing on with 6000. Only one way to find out, try it!

I remember more than one thread where members have shaved off a hone WAY lower than 6k. But not me.

Is a 6k what you have or what you are thinking of getting ? The tutorials in the SRP Wiki have information on recommended grit levels for honing razors. The 4k to 8k seems to be an ideal spread for a blade that is in decent condition to start with. IMO if you haven't made the move yet a Norton 4/8 is a good way to go.

Keep in mind that different stones with the same grit level
can put dramatically different edges on a razor. It wouldn't
surprise me if a `6k' stone came along that could give a
pretty nice smooth shave.

I've been shaving off of a 1k. It's not getting bbs but still decent. So with that being said...?

If you have been shaving off of a 1K you are one muy tough hombre. If you're in the USA and you get the Norton 4/8 it is reasonably priced comparatively speaking and is well documented with the experience of many members in the forum archives and in the Wiki. Works great too IME.

Yep. It takes more pressure. Some stuff it just wont cut. I did strop mine first
