ok dont luah at me on this one, you will be able to tell how much i think about this lol. the other day i was walking through one of the local tool slash everything store when i happened upon soon nice weight lefting belts. and i said self could these be split in 2 and used as a strop or will this just be a pipe dream. please tell me what you think i can get the belts for a eye popping 3 bucks, now you see why im asking lol. again thanks for your time.

Yep, whenever I see those things the first thought across my mind is how will they handle a blade on them?
I say, if its not too much money, you should give it a try!

If there is a smoother side to the belt, I would try that side first. If it works you'll have saved yourself quite a bit of money! I'm assuming it's a leather belt...If so, I'm sure you could even condition it like a regular strop, maybe even sand the surface lightly and rub a bit of oil into it.
If you have a way of doing something that isn't convention, but works, I say do it.

Thanked: 46im not out alot of money either way, i wonder if there is a way to prepare teh ruff side. who knows i will head down there tomorrow and maybe grab 2 lol.

give it a try and let us know. if it does work most lifting belts are about 5-6 inches wide that would make a nice strop

Thanked: 52a weight belt would be a cheaper leather for sure...and mighty stiff i would think...but hey you never know...
some have said they use saddle sinches and they work just fine
