    Default intro

    Hi Guys,
I started looking into straight razor shaving a few weeks ago and have spent several hours reading posts on this forum and the wiki. Great info that has saved me money, time, and skin! I got a shave ready razor from Altima55 and a strop from another vendor on Ebay. I’ve now got four successful shaves under my belt with only two minor nicks. My initial interest came from my frustration with the spiraling cost of cartridge razor shaving and wanting to switch to something with more value. Now that I have the bug I can tell I’m not going to be saving any money, but I will certainly have more value. I went out to a few antique shops on my lunch hour the other day and picked up a nice Solingen made 5/8 round point razor and a champion branded barber’s hone. I’ve got it sharp enough to pass the HHT and shaved with it this morning, Porraso and a Tweezerman badger. I also picked up a Double Duck satin edge that could use more restoration than I am ready to do. I tried some bronze wool and wd40 and some never dull but the blade still has some dark spots. I'm not quite up to taking sand paper to it and maybe ruining it. I’ll see if I can figure out how to post a picture here and maybe try to put it in the classifieds. Thanks to all of you that have taken the time and energy to add your knowledge and experience to this site. It has certainly made my entry into straight razor shaving more enjoyable and has kept me form making several newbie mistakes!

Hi Bob, welcome to SRP! It sounds like you're well on your
way -- enjoy the shaves, they keep getting better and better.
