1st shave with a str8
Well gents, I had my first shave with a straight. I think I did pretty well. I did a full shave; WTG, ATG, and XTG. I only gave myself a few weepers (mostly due to the XTG pass and my inexperience), still less than a Merkur DE blade gives me. I did need to strop the razor half way through the XTG pass. While not BBS all the way save the cheeks, I rather enjoyed the experience. Throughout an SMF members mantra rang true; “It’s your face, not a race." I'll need many more practices as I did with a DE before I can get a great shave, and learn how to handle the razor especially on the neck, chin, and upper lip areas. Thanks for all the help gentlemen, especially to Gugi for selling me a razor and strop. I’m sure I’ll be asking many more questions in the future.

Oh wow!
Let me get this straight - you did three passes including ATG and got comparable if not better result than a DE razor you're familiar with!?! You must be a natural, my friend
Enjoy, and we're certainly here to help with any questions you may have.

Yes, three passes. I did get much better results than my first DE shave; absolutely no razor burn at all. While I get better results with a DE and a Crystal blade, my first shave with a straight was very presentable, and SWMBO said my skin looks better than it does after a regular DE shave. (How she can tell after only one shave beats me). I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, especially with all of the support found here!

Thanked: 267Very good. If I may suggest give up the ATG for at least a little while and get a little more familiar with the razor.
Take Care,

Welcome to SRP. Congrats on your shave thats great to hear. As far a learning to hold the razor, it will come with time don't be afraid to try different grips you may find something that works for you that will not work for someone else.

That sounds amazing. It was a month before I even attempted an XTG pass. Usually the nicks and cuts come when you least expect , each one a valuable learning experience. I'm sure you'll experience those at some point.
