Finally
Well folks although it feels stupid giving an update on my shaving progress I must say I finally felt like I knew what I was doing today. I must be on shave 5 or 6 doing the sideburns, cheeks, and a little bit of chin and after a nice prep the blade just glided along the skin just like a DE would. I felt comfortable enough to go XTG and did the upper lip, no cuts, no blood, just a smooth shave. I remember on the first two I was kind of slow until I read someone’s post to just deliberately shave. Well that was good advice because I got over the anxiety of shaving too fast and being afraid of getting cut. I'm just waiting for a few razor bumps on the neck to go away and then I'll move forward and try doing the neck correctly this time.
Thanks people for all the information and instruction you provided.

I was gonig to post about my recent success as well. I am finally getting the feel for the light touch that my neck needs for a shave that doesn't leave me on fire!! It's nice to not feel so awkward when trying to shave areas that before had me dumbfounded as to how I would ever shave in that direction on that side of my face!!
So far I can say that for me a light touch and the good sense to stop shaving when it feels wrong are good things to remember. I've procurred a couple of razors from the e-gamble and I'm now I'm excited to send them off to some of the members here to have them cleaned up, one re-scaled, and made shave-ready!!
Maybe one day I'll get that BBS ....
Congrats

Congrats!
You're more than right about just jumping in and shaving. Be careful, but don't be so cautious that you end up cutting yourself. Glad to hear that you're making progress, and it definitely seems like you're building your straight shaving confidence!
