I did it!
Hi all,
Last night I decided to go for it, and ordered a straight razor & strop so I too can enter the realm of classic shaving. So all I need now (apart from the hardware), is to get over that psychological threshold and really go for it!
Nice forum over here by the way, very usefull and everybody is keen on helping out others with this. This made it much easier to take the decision, and that is why I got a NOS Wapienica from The Invisible Edge in the UK (or is this spamming now?)

Hey Michiel
ik zou zeggen 'Wecome to the club'
Sooner or later you will need to go for it. Take your time, read up on all the info you can find at SRP, ask any questions. Don't be a stranger.
If persistent after a few weeks, months you'll be so happy you switched to str8 shaving. It's extremely rewarding!
Veel geluk!

welkom Michiel,
I wish you a great start at your new shaving carreer...after only 4 months of straight shaving I still consider myself a newb but the shaves are great (and honing is fun)
veel plezier!

Congratulations! As Maximilian said, take your time, don't expect instantaneous perfection and enjoy the experience. Continue asking questions, but more importantly Don't be apprehensive to try different techniques...remember everyone has different methodologies. After several weeks of shaving with a straight you'll be well on your way to knowing what works best for you... the individual.

Just don't go painstakingly slow like I did the first time. When your confident just deliberately shave. You'll love it. I just started a few weeks ago and I don't think I'll ever go back to using an electric like I have all my life. I do sections at a time and so far it's been working out.

Hi all,
Wow, what a warm welcome here, just great! Thanks everybody for the support. Actually my remark should not been taken too seriously, I am not too faint hearted . I cannot wait until I can start trying this out! Finally a smooth skin without razor burn etc. looms on the horizon. And being Dutch, not having to bring lots of money to the greedy throw away companies anymore is always an added benefit, hehehe.
And off course nice to see there's more Dutch speaking "partners in crime" over here! Leuk dat jullie er zijn

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome, Michiel
Once you actually start shaving with the straight, you'll be amazed how simple it really is. The shaves generally get better and better very quickly as you learn which angles are best for your beard growth. Enjoy the ride!
