    Who else finds it amusing that a place that calls itself "The Art of Shaving" seemingly knows very little about the art of shaving, lol. I feel bad for the people who go in there and take home "shave ready" razors.

    Might I suggest that you make sure that your skin has settled down completely before you take up the challenge again? Otherwise you could still risk inflaming your war-wounds. There's nothing quite so sharp as a nicely-honed blade. Once experienced, never forgotten. After shaving for 3 months and having experienced the discomfort of razor-rash, bumps and ingrowing hairs, I can thankfully report facial skin that is positively pampered and in good condition (with the exception of one impressive hairline-thin scar that is disappearing slowly - oops!!!). Get it sharp, keep it sharp, take it easy.

    Good luck.

    philaudio,

    I haven't read all your replies, but the ones I have read suggest that you should have the razor in question sharpened. Well, of course you need it sharpened, and it should have been sharpened before you first used it. Six months of use would probably even have dulled the near mythic Wootz razors. Those are the ones made from the fabled steel that was used in the middle ages to create swords that could chop ordinary steel swords into tooth picks.

    At any rate, your TI razor is made of good steel by a company of fine reputation. The retailer should have told you it needed to be honed to its final shaving edge by someone who knew how to sharpen a razor. At the factory it was probably sharpened to 90% or better, but it likely needed a bit more work. And it certainly needs a bit more work now after 6 months of use.

    Take one of the offerers-to-hone up on their generosity. You'll be amazed at how good a sharp razor feels on your face.

    And you might want to figure out how to hone your own razors too. After all, it will require periodic touch ups. They all do, you know. That's why the disposables are... disposed of; edges get dull - entropy rules.

    good luck and hope you make the right choice,

    You know, not excusing the sales people at AOS but if ya read TI's instruction sheet in there with the razor they say the same thing... Just strop and go.... We all know that just doesn't work...

    Certainly TI shares in the blame but you would think that over time, someone in one of those stores would get some feedback from a customer, check into it, and do something about the fact that they aren't actually shave ready.

    I am of the opinion that none of the workers or customers know what a shave ready razor is supposed to be. Consequently they simply live out their lives in complete ignorance. Then when someone finally does see the light, they never go back or if they do, bother to complain or inform the salesperson. And even if such an unlikely event did occur, the salesperson probably leaves the job fairly soon.

    It's a pretty big chain right? and they're located in a lot of malls. They may have done studies and found most of their business is from one time customers buying gifts or the like with very few repeat sales. Ya just never know.

    Maybe it's worth noting that if you visit the four razor categories on the AoS website, they offer:

    1. The perfect shave with Fusion blades by Gillette;
    2. The perfect shave with Mach 3 blades by Gillette;
    3. Straight razors;
    4. Safety razors.

    Spot the difference? Read into it what you will.
