    Default remove rust from blade

I have a dovo razor that started a small rust spot on the curvature part of the razor. I used the razor a few days ago and noticed the rust area has increased in size. Is there a way to remove it or at least stop it from growing more?

    Thanks.

I would start with a scotch pad and some polishing compound with a rag.

Can you post a picture? +1 on the polishing compound a good metal polish would probably do the job. If not there is a section in the wiki Hand sanding a blade - Straight Razor Place Wiki if it is real bad you can try sanding.

you can also try oiling the blade with a shot of WD40 or a "nicer" oil. Oxygen causes rust on steel when it oxidizes. Stop the air from hitting the metal and you'll stop the rust. Good luck!

    Default Thanks for the advice

Thank you all for responding! Years ago I made a living as a welder and fabricator. I know how to work with metal, but some of what I have learned about straight razors is a little different than what is the norm. For instance, sharpening a knife is different than sharpening a razor - one is blade first on the stone (knife) and the other is drawing the blade backwards (razor). So I'm reluctant to do what I think it takes to keep the razor in good shape without first knowing what the experts do to keep their razors in good shape.

Anyway, I'll take some light abrasive and work the rust off and then make sure I oil it to keep the rust from coming back.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Robert.

I'm not sure I read that bit right - drawing the razor backwards is backhoning. Not that it can't be done (some do and have great success - I think japanese razors are honed like that) but people usually only draw it backwards to remove a wire edge, you move it edge forwards usually. It is moved like you suggest on a strop though.

    Neil
