Thanked: 234Hi Guys
Hi,
I have just started using a straight razor, I was online one evening browsing (as you do) and bought a cheapo razor that takes disposable blades (a cardinal sin, I suspect) anyway, I thought it was about the best way to have a go with out spending a lot of money.
I've used it every day for 5 or 6 days and I'm loving it, got a few minor nicks mostly on my chin, but that's all part of the challenge, right.
Getting there though!

Welcome to the forum!
Not a cardinal sin, but a different experience. I've never used one, but AFAIK, you're more likely to get nicks with them due to both ends being like a spike point straight.
Glad you're enjoying it. You'll enjoy a true straight even more! See how it goes & then maybe pick up a shave ready from the classifieds sometime.
Have fun with it!

Hey Greg,
Welcome to SRP! By no means a cardinal sin (well I hope cause else I'm guilty).
I started about the same with a shavette and I still use it sometimes (they are very handy on vacations and travel or if you send your other razor to the hones or dont want to strop for some reason..) If you know how to handle a shavette and get comfortable shaves with them I'm sure you will do even better with a "real" straight.
well have fun!

Thanked: 234I think I might pick up a kit in a couple of weeks. Interesting that you're more likely to get nicks, I suppose it makes sense, probably not helped by the fact that (on my £10 effort anyway) the end of the blade isn't actually at the end of the 'shroud' if you catch my drift.
Quite comfortable using it though, maybe a little too comfortable, hence the nicks. Wouldn't be the first thing I've been over confident with lol.
I'm 19 by the way, not that it makes much odds, but I wonder about the demographic of straight blade users.
