Thanked: 1progress
I still need to get my razor professionally honed, but I've upgraded my brush and soap. I got a Vulvix super badger brush and some Classic bay rum soap. It's a pleasant experience just to brush that warm, rich lather all over. I'm using the old stuff in the shower to keep a lather on my face while I'm scrubbing everything else, just to enhance the softening effect. I've been too dang busy to get my razor shipped off for a sharpening, but I might be able to manage it this week.
After studying the whole straight razor thing so much, I've been paying more attention to the various directions my beard grows and putting a lot more effort into the beard prep, and it's all paying off. Now I just need to pitch the crappy disposables and do all my shaving with the straight. I really can't get all the hairs off my face without shaving like hell. I'm hoping a sharp straight will take care of that. The "old fashioned way" seems to work so much better for every other part of the shave, I'm sure those stubborn whiskers will soon be a thing of the past.
I don't mind how much time it takes to be thorough and enjoy the experience. I shower at night before going to bed. I sleep much better when I'm all clean, and my wife likes it when I hop in bed all clean-shaven and smelling great. It's a great way to unwind from the day.

I too am I night showerer and shaver. Jumping into bed all clean and shaven feels so great doesn't it? You're all too right about noticing beard direction and such, I found that once I got more into proper shaving (first DE and now straights) I became much more aware of how my hair grows. Now I realize how assymetrical my beard growth is...

Here's one more nightshaver!
I've got light beard and a job that doesnt really requires me to shave at all.. so I usualy shave every other day..
The one thing I do hate about nightshaving is the smell of nivea aftershave balm on my pillow.. yuk..
Now I use sanex... that doesnt have a smell at all..
Good luck with your honed razor.. I'm sure you will love it.

I too am a night shaver (well I shave on saturday morning I got a little more time) most mornings I am up way to early and well I like to sleep so I don't give myself the time to shave in the morning. It is kinda weird how you start to pay a lot more attention to your face when you shave with a straight..
