    Default ATG First Pass?

    Hey All,
I converted to straight shaving about two months ago and things are getting better all the time. I still don't get the same quality bbs as I do with some of my DE's, but I'm trying to be patient.

My question is: Do any of you shave against the grain on the first pass? I know that it is not necessarily proper form, but I'm curious all the same. I don't think I would do it in my tough spots like my chin or upper lip, but maybe everywhere else on my face and neck. I'm thinking about giving it a go, but I wanted to hear from you guys first. Thanks so much!
    Matt

'what is the reason you want to go first atg?why not go second?
I personally never done so .i think it will not be very pleasent feeling specially if you have long hair on your face.I never shave without atg but only in my second pass.good luck on your attempt and let us know result .

My first pass is always WTG and the second a combination of XTG and ATG depending on the area. I only do two passes. I wouldn't do ATG first as I have sensitive skin and I think it would leave me uncomfortable. Some areas such as the upper lip I never do ATG.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I've seen the videos a few times before and they are terrific. You also seem to use a steeper blade angle than I do (or have been courageous enough to try!). I'm really impressed with how swiftly you move through your pass. I seem to take so long that my lather dries all the time. Thanks again!

So I gave it a shot today. I went ATG on my cheeks, jaw and neck. With my upper lip and chin I handled that in the usual way. The process went well and I did not find it uncomfortable. The result was probably a little closer, but I didn't push it too far. I'll try again tomorrow and maybe I'll be a little more aggressive. Thanks for all the insight!
