yeah that takes some serious dumplings to shave off 1200 sandpaper. Be careful, Bro.

I used a DE and I can say that I get great BBS shaves with my Gillette NEW but I always wanted to try a straight. Using a strop in the morning, honing, the look of the razors, the mystical shaves I heard about, I had to try it. Now I am hooked.

Keep in mind that it DOES take a while to learn how to shave with a straight. More than you think. I thought I would get it easily, since I did get DE shaving easily, but no it wasn't that way at all.

I am now about 7-8 weeks into using a straight and I just got to understand how to use my Cr0 strop for touching up the keenness on my blade and how to strop correctly on my tony miller strop. Even then I sometimes miss a spot on my neck that can bug me all day.

Seriously, go slow, use no pressure (Even less so than your DE) and make sure you keep a good enough angle at all times. If you try ATG keep the razor flat on your face so the spine touches too, that way you won't cut yourself as easily.

    Best wishes!

I don't want to confuse you either, but I bought a Wapi as my first straight and I can't stand the thing. I can't get a good shave from the type of blade it is. Another thing about straights is some blades work for others, but won't work for your facial hair growth.

I thought a Wapi would be awesome, it looked cool, everyone said it was good..Mine just sits on the dresser for weeks.

And I got mine from Ken at Ruprazor, so it was honed properly.

Besides the classifieds, Kenrup (a member here) sells great starter sets. Both sources are truly great prices on very nice razors...
