First week coming to a close
Received my razor(5/8 DOVO Bismarck) and strop from SRD Monday and have been looking forward to my morning shave ever since. I think I have started to get a un-natural yearn to shave, I was almost hoping that there was a to push out more hair to get a chance to get more practice at the straight razor shaving.
I have come to the conclusion that spike points are not very forgiving to people new at straight shaving, my first decent nick came from the corner just kissing my cheek very lightly. However, I feel nicks and cuts like that help you get that confidence that seems to be making it easier. I am not so intimidated by cutting my self anymore, not that I like bleeding, but atleast I know what to expect now.
Just received my TGQ shave soap today, pretty happy that there was 2 samples just thrown in there, very awesome customer service.
But I must say many thanks to everyone here at Straight Razor Place for all of there information, help. guidance and stories of experience. I feel that all of that has been very helpful and I thank you all.Last edited by Naslundl; 04-10-2009 at 06:44 AM.

Welcome to SRP! I learned to always be aware of where the point is with the spike points...... an any other razor. Read my sig below to avoid nicks. Still works for me and at least one other forum member I know of.
Don't forget to check out the SRP Wiki here for tutorials on all things straight razor shaving related and the video tutorials here.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome! Oh, the "unnatuaral yearning to shave!" I know that well! If I could force a day or two's growth out of my skin, I would almsot every day...shavning more hair is just more fun than scraping stubble! I know a lot of guys here say you should be able to get as good a shave with one day's growth as with three, but that is still not the case for me. I get a very good shave every day, but sunday night, after not shaving sicne Fri morning...woah...it's just so much fun!
Yeah, those spike points are apt to reach out and give you a little kiss. They do teach you to pay attention, though, and i think in the long run, might be very good for your tecnhique.

The yearning to shave..... this morning I did my first "proper" shave (Tabac soap w/ Tweezerman and a semi-sharp"ish" Double Arrow, plus an alum block ready to go) and after about an hour I had the idea of putting my improved technique ideas into action in a second go. My neck especially was not very smooth and particularly red, but I'm actually in the mood to do some more.

Welcome!
The first shaves are always exillerating, aren't they? I know exactly what you mean about the yearning to shave, I get it all the time. I'm actually just about the shower and shave, and I'm REALLY looking forward to taking my Wade and Butcher for a little stroll around my face.
Enjoy the shaves, and it only gets better from here!

Welcome to SRP! Shaving is the best part of all of this, and
collecting, honing, chatting etc. are nice activities to do in-
between!
