    Default Using both hands

    Hi,
Going on week 2, and thanks to all the folks on this sight that have provided fantastic advice. Got a few nicks on the first few days, but for the past 4 or 5 days the shaves have been great (+1 on "lighter touch is better")

Just wanted those who might be intimidated by the thought of using both hands to shave with a straight-- it was easier to pick this up than I thought, especially since the activity was so new, my "dominant" hand did not have much of an advantage.

It might be harder moving to both hands if you first learn to shave only with the dominant hand, so take advantage of the learning curve and jump into it right off the bat.

If you can survive the first week, you'll be home free!

I'm learning with both but it is still awkward with my off hand. No nicks and the shave comes out decent though so it is just a matter of time until I've got it.

I agree though using both hands is the way to go. It is much easier to reach everywhere you need to go and be at the right angle when you are free to switch the razor between hands.

I agree with BHChieftain. I'm also still learning, but using my right hand is about as difficult as my left hand (I'm left handed). And the advantage of choosing the best hand&grip for every spot far outweights the extra learning curve.

get past the fear factor and shave your entire face a few times with your non dominant hand. this will help you a lot. i get into rythyms with my left and shave most of my right side of the neck before i realize it. now it is just 2nd nature with either hand.

great story and feels good tot see improvements huh!!

Yet another good piece of advice for me to keep in mind as I start shaving with my SR this week. I did try to shave with my Wade and Butcher after I attempted to sharpen and hone it myself but it just wasn't quite sharp enough. I sent both of my Wade and Butcher's to Lynn for sharpening. I am just waiting on my new strop from Tony Miller and I will be on my way.

Wow! I love the advice! - if only for the adventure and experience of it. I can see where it could really help your shaving skills.

Okay, tomorrow will be the entire face with the left hand! I love it!

    Thanks,

    Steve

It is good advice. I'm not ready to go there yet but if I ever start shaving with the left hand I won't forget it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm half tempted to try with my left hand. Maybe tomorrow - would make next to no difference on my WTG pass, but I can think of a few places it might come in handy on my ATG pass.

I'm a newbie too, less than 2 months I tried using both hands as in Abs DVD but cut and nicked myself more I can get a baby smooth shave with one hand though still try and do small easy patches with my left hand as training though.
