Preshave Anticipation
All,
Tomorrow is the day that I start with my SR. I have 2 Wade and Butcher 4/8 razors, sharpened by Lynn and ready to go. My new strop form Tony Miller should be waiting for me when I get home this evening and I have a well used brush and soap that I have been using for a couple of years.
I have watched Lynn's video, along with several other shaving videos online. I have my Clubman aftershave which is complimented by my Clubman powder and barber brush for applying it.
I am going to start with my cheeks and see how it goes. I have even practiced figuring out the 30 degree angle thing on the different parts of my face.
Anything else that I should do before I shave in the morning?
I will post my results tomorrow.

Hey best of luck on your first go. Read my sig for what works for me and at least one other forum member I know of.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Good luck, Jim. greg's advice is quite sound IME. I shaved in the evening for the first few weeks. Rushing is never good.

I third the evening thing. Take a nice long shower and take your time working on your face tonight instead of trying to do it in the morning.

Thanked: 234I can't say I meant that as advice, I would just be so keen if I had the kit there lol.
I do agree with you guys though, the evening probably is better when you're starting out. I used to shave in the evenings mostly and on the mornings I don't have to be in until later.

Thanked: 5Well its that "Grasping the nettle time" friend. Its not so long ago I faced it myself (about a month) Take plenty of time in preparation, hot towel/flannel, oil then lather on top. While this is getting into the beard strop the razor, then its two good deep breaths decide where you're going to start and take your time. Don't become distracted, don't get wound up if a stroke does'nt yield a result move onto the next one, remember you can always relather and go over it if you start scraping over and over you're only going to end up sore and watch what your other hand is doing when bringing the razor down I did'nt and got nice cut across my pinky.
If all goes well you will be addicted and unable to wait for your next shave, the problem with this is that the SR shave lasts twice as long as the twin blade so you don't need it as much.
Enjoy!

Thanked: 41In some circles many will say that the best thing to do before the 1st str8 shave is PRAY, AND PRAY VERY HARD.
Seriously, it sounds like you have it all under contol. Shave prep is very important as well as patience. Only shave the area of the face that is comfortable and without resistance. Proceded with both caution and confidence.
Good Luck and remember it will get better!

Good luck with the shave Jim! Let us
know how it goes -- keep in mind that
there is lots of learning and practice
still to be done
