Thanked: 156There is a place in Paradise Valley that uses real straights. My friend goes there, they charge $20. Not bad at all.
I hear theres somewhere in Chandler as well.
I suspect Hillary can't use a real straight because the proprietor does not want the liability. Personally, I think thats being paranoid, but I can understand the fear.

Glad to have you here! Wish I lived closer, it would be nice to get a shave than to shave. The VWs are cool, but I'm into American iron, like this--> http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...tage-cars.html

Thanked: 1I just think everyone is misinformed in my shop.. one person tells you yes you can us a real one, and then the others say no... im confused!!! i would definetly us a real one!! first i would like to try it out a few times though just to get the pressure and everything right!! Then maybe offer clients wich they would rather have me use?!? I dont mind using dispposables since the shop provides the blades!! and also just for a FYI the shaves at my shop are $24.oo i think its very resonable!! i used to work somewhere and shaves STARTED at $50.00!!!!!!!!! oh and all the shaves at the shop are given by girls (which aren't hard on the eyes!!!) We don't have any male barbers at the moment...

Thanked: 156Oh....Now you're just teasing us!!!!
Well, for all you guys not in AZ...Ha! I can drive down there!
Hillary, maybe you can offer your customers a choice between a real straight and the "fake" one. I might have to drive out there after finals and lend you a straight. :P
btw, who is the member here who's a customer at your shop? Not asking you to out him, but if you see him or if he's reading this..... I'm just curious.

Thanked: 156I must admit, I was actually concerned with what would happen if someone was cut. After reading some sterilization threads and looking up what barbicide kills...apparently there isn't anything to worry about. That stuff kills HIV and hep. Add the fact that steel is generally inhospitable to nasties and... its a pretty sterile instrument. You can wipe it down with alcohol to physical remove most of whatever is on the blade, then soak it in barbicide to kill the rest. Rotate between razors and your G2G!
