    Default Hello, SRP!

    Hi guys,
I've been snooping around for a while. Onimaru55 directed me to this site after my purchase from him on Ebay.

My name is Jason. I live in Tampa (duh, right?). I'm 27 years old and have been considering moving into straight razor shaving for a while. Had I known about this site before I started, I would've been ahead of the learning curve, but never really had too many issues.

I dove straight in. I didn't bother with "starter sets" or anything like that but I've been pretty much the same way my whole life - baptism by fire. My first razor was actually my purchase from Oz. It's a vintage Sheffield style razor crafted by a Josiah Barnes in 1834. It's quite sharp and does a great job. I have no problems with it at all on my face - left or right handed. I'm working on my throat more and more with each shave and have had very minimal razor burn the last few times. I've only shaved, so far, about 10-12 times with it but am loving it. I look forward to when I have enough facial hair to warrant cutting it off.

I'm looking at a few more purchases online as I type this - specifically vintage style blades for restoration. I hope none of you guys are bidding on what I am ... cause you won't win. HAAAARR!

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am really enjoying the site and community that's sprung up around it. Glad to be here and you should be seeing a few more posts from me in the near future.

    -Jason

    Hello!
Glad it's started well for you!
There are plenty of fella's to compete with on the bay, so bid high if you intend to see that threat through!
Not sure if you've found it yet, but here's the Wiki resto link.

    Welcome Jason,

it's never to late to start with straight shaving. I started before my 20's.
There's plenty of info for you on SRP to keep yourself busy.
You must have a kick ass Sheffield razor coming from the Oz.
Never hesitate to ask any questions you might have. In the end it's all about having fun.

And don't forget pics about your acquisitions. We at SRP loooove razor porn.

Hey Jason ! Welcome aboard. Glad you joined the club.
Sounds like you got the shave happening. Remember light pressure ,low angle.
Good luck with eBay. A few bargains lately

    welcome jason,

actually you did get a proper start even if you got lucky and don't recognize it. you bought a razor that was honed by somebody who knows what a properly honed razor should be and he directed you to the resources here

as far as winning those razors.... don't count your ducks before they hatch

I just started my shaving experience a few months ago...the whole 'learning curve/mistakes' has been just as fun as when i get things right. Excited to see new guys on here, like me.

Thanks, Gugi. Oz is a great guy. I always enjoy getting emails from him about razors

He did right sending me here, no doubt.

Ok. Today was a great shave. Being I'm still new to this, it's not perfect, but I'm getting pretty damn close. I'm not quite BBS; but I must admit, being that I have no irritation on my neck whatsoever and I was able to successfully make a great pass ATG there as well, I'm quite pleased.
