    Default 2 Week Update

Hi Everyone: I've been using my straight razor for two weeks now and I just thought I would check in with my progress. This morning I was able to do one complete WTG pass with the straight razor and about half my face XTG. Definitely starting to get the hang of this. Here's what I have learned so far:
1)Straight razor shaving definitely has a longer, steeper learning curve than DE shaving
2)It's infinitely more fun to shave with a straight razor
3)Biggest key for me is making sure I stretch the skin as much as possible. Much easier to get the razor to glide this way.
4)Obviously angle and light pressure are also important so that I don't get irritated.
5)Amazing how much closer a shave I get with the straight razor. I almost don't have to shave the next day (but that wouldn't be fun).

Thanks for everyone's help and advice on this sight. You're a great group of people.

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, my avatar is a golden. I lost Laser about two years ago also. The best dog an owner could have. My son has carried on the tradition and now has a one year old golden of his own who is also a great dog. Best dog breed out there IMHO.

It sounds like you and I started around the same time. But it sounds like you are taking it slower than I am. I should follow your example and slow down a bit.

I know the improvement feels great, but don't get a big head about your abilities. I did earlier today and lets just say that I became great friends with my styptic pencil and a soothing aftershave.

Thanks a350z4me. You're right. I need to stay within myself and not get ahead of myself. My tendency is to always want to do more too soon and that's a definite way to get in trouble. I will heed your advice and continue to advance slowly.

try not to give any demonstrations for a while yet

    my first three went

" so this is how you ROWWWW!! SONOFA%*#^&@^!!!!"

it seems talking moves your face
    not a good idea

    tips would include
    60 laps on strop
thick lather, maybe some hair conditioner first for a couple minutes
try leading with the toe or leading with the heal
    the "scything motion"
just beware because slicing motions cause slices

    rock on dude

Hi Laser! I'm also just beginning straight shaving, not even a week yet though It is fun to hear other peoples adventures! What I've learned so far is that prep and patience is key!
