Thanked: 1Opinions on Skin Food?
So early in and I'm expanding already -- though I do have 2 restoration projects already... I can only imagine what it's going to be like a few months/years/decades from now!
On the wiki there's a suggestion for skin prep with the Geo F Trumper's Skin Food while making a lather. Does anyone have experience with this stuff or similar? Is it suggested for newbies?
Many thanks.

Thanked: 3Great stuff. I highly recommend it. I use Coral Skin food. It takes very little each time so it lasts a long time. I use it after the shave and not as a prep.

Thanked: 3Burt's Bees makes a similar product to the coral, which they just call Rose water skin toner. I've only used it as a skin toner, but loved it! Gentle, refreshing, and best of all, you smell like roses afterward! I'd like to try it as a pre-shave, but I let my dad try it, as I'm not sure he has satisfactory aftershaves.

I love Skin Food. You certainly can use it as a pre-shave to soften your beard. I prefer Proraso Pre/Post as a pre-shave (and it's a lot cheaper). As a post shave balm (after my alcohol splash) in moderately dry weather, nothing beats Skin Food. The sandalwood is my favorite.

The trumper's skin food is great stuff. It's supposedly been around since early 1900s so there's definitely something to the product to stay that long, esp. considering that it's not cheap like say AcquaVelva.
I've used the coral one as preshave a couple of times, but I'm too lazy and like as simple procedure as possible, so I don't do it anymore.
I don't like as much the lime, so I have the coral and the sandalwood. Scentwise they're not any amazing representation, but it's certainly good enough considering that the scent doesn't last too long.
Try it, chances are you'll like it. I believe you can order a sample pack from trumpers for the cost of shipping (or free in UK). That includes samples of their skinfoods.

Thanked: 1Yet another representation of one of the key reasons why I love this forum: lots of replies!
Thanks guys. That helped a great deal. I'll look into that sampler pack and Burt's Bees stuff.
I've never heard of proraso, but I'll see if I can find it.
If the general public has more suggestions keep them coming, because I'll probably end up with a shelf full of bottles!
