    Default Pasting a strop...

Is it possible to remove an existing red paste from a linen strop and replace it with CrOx paste...or should i just put in on top?

    Thanks.

I think saddle soap will do it. If not try your shaving soap and a bunch of scrubbing with a cloth (I've done that with too much strop dressing)

I've cleaned the linen on mine by rubbing in a bar of soap & scraping it off. I used a steel rule, so there was no chance of cutting it. I just kept repeating the process & it got progressively cleaner. I guess it'd work with removing a paste too.
I suspect that there will always be some of the original paste left in the fibre though.
I wouldn't put it on top without trying something though, as you'll always have the issue of the coarser paste cutting.

I will try both. I put the crap on, awhile back, before viewing Lynns video... Its probably a lost cause, since i 'newbified' the linen strop and put way too much paste on, to begin with.
Thanks for the feedback Mark and Ben and wish me luck.

Once you paste a strop you should consider it permanent. With a leather strop that's a given however with a cloth strop you have the advantage of being able to wash and scrub it so you can probably get most off but some will still be left since it embeds itself into the cloth. I know some guys use all kinds of stuff to clean leather but in the end I would just buy a new strop. Cloth or pasted leather uses a pretty basic strop which isn't that expensive anyway.

Yeah...the red paste is pretty imbedded in the linen. Ive tried the washing and light scraping...its going nowhere. The green paste, i intend to use is more coarse, supposedly about 6 microns...if the red paste, currently on the strop, is about 2-4 microns, do you think it would be less of an issue mixing them?

    Thanks again guys.

Not an expert on paste grit's, but if the new paste is coarser then just get off as much of the old as you can, then the new will be able to go on. If it was the other way around there would be an issue, but coarse over fine would be ok.
