Thanked: 0Come say hi to the new guy
Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, names John and probably like some of you here I've been shaving with an old gillette red tip for a while and wanted to expanded my shaving horizons. I wanted to say what a fine and very informative forum board you guys have here, already picked up quite a bit of information and looking forward on my first straight razor shave ( have to buy a razor first) and joining in on the discussion. Thanks again

Thanked: 2Hi
Hi John
welcome to the site
have you picked out a blade yet?
a cheap alternative for trying it it out is the Shavette but I'm sure you'll find a nice piece of hardware to put on order real soon

Welcome to SRP John. If you haven't already seen it the SRP Wiki here is a great resource for straight razor info. There is a great razor data base with hundreds of photos too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1195Welcome to the club! Sounds like you've done your reading, but read some more as you can never get enough info about this hobby. Be sure to budget for a nice well-made strop to go with whatever razor you end up buying (that's my way of saying not to cheap-out ). You'll thank yourself for it later.

Hi! Spend the time till you get a razor reading here. Don't forget the Wiki is rammed with information.
Also, keep an eye on the classifieds. There are usually some great deals there, & most are shave ready.

Thanked: 1587Hi New Guy!!
We are a great, friendly bunch here. Just remember that after you buy your first straight you must undergo the initiation ceremony. You must supply your own paddle, but we will bring the nipple clamps...

Thanked: 234Hi,
These guys have sorted you out information wide, the wiki has so much info on straight razor shaving it could be printed off and sold as a book.
The best bit of advice you will get is to read and double check if you're not sure about something. Read the reviews on kit, and read up on technique. It's a shame when people are put off because their first shave is with substandard kit or technique that will only end in tears.
Good luck!
