Is this a good deal for a starter?

I just ordered my Strop and Razor from SRD. I can say nothing but good things about the product and service. Of course, if you're like me, you'll upgrade a couple of things here and there and end up spending more than that awesome price. Honestly, if you can get completely set up for that price, it's worth it, to me. I have not used SRD soaps (yet, but I feel SSAD coming on...) but I'm about a minute or two from ordering some. I bought (and spent more than the 40 dollars you're asking about) a badger brush from elsewhere and have also used a cheap boar brush. Well, you'll need a brush and soap right?

Overall, you could probably get the necessary stuff a little cheaper here and there, but this stuff you're looking at is good quality equipment at a good (no, great!) price. Compare it anywhere (keeping in mind that not all razors are as shave ready as this one will be) and I doubt you'll find stuff at this level of quality for this price.
