Thanked: 0Canada
Hi there,
I live in Germany and will travel this year to Canada to visit my sister, she lives in Calgary.
At the moment I have two dovo razors.
I would like to know, which brands of US or Canadian brands you would recommend, and perhaps some hints on where to find such.
Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers,
Grizzly.-Last edited by grizzly1; 05-15-2009 at 05:18 PM.

Thanked: 74You should probably go see Scott at Rasage Poulin while you are here. He lives in Calgary.

Thanked: 1195Welcome to SRP, grizzly1, and welcome to Canada/Alberta when you arrive as well. I think you will enjoy your visit, as long as you are here during the summer months . Alberta seems to get quite a few German tourists in the summer, and the ones I've talked to have had no complaints.
dnjrboy has put you on the right path for razors in Calgary. There aren't any American or Canadian manufacturers in operation any more, so any of the reputable brands would most likely be found in antique shops or flea markets. Last time I was in Calgary I saw a couple of Dovo models in a knife shop in shopping mall, but they weren't shave-ready. I did find a shop that sold premium shaving soaps (like Taylor of Old Bond Street) for dirt cheap; I believe it was called Juliette's Day Spa, not far south from downtown.

Yah, we'd just take 'em outside in June to make the Fridour / Ice tempered models.

Welcome, grizzly1
There were some decent razors made in Hamilton, Ontario in the earlier part of the last century, but now nothing is being made in North America any more to my knowledge except the customs.
There are some fine folk in Calgary. Enjoy yourself!
