Thanked: 190Reflecting on those initial straight shaves!
It would be fun for newbies to reflect on their first 20 - 25 shaves as they moved up the learning curve on straight shaving and here is my example:
First 3 shaves - This has to get better and faster!
Next 3 shaves - Hey, I am not cutting myself anymore.
Next 3 shaves - Dam, I cut myself from being over confident.
Next 5 shaves - Oh, thats how I get this area BBS - tricky one!
Next 5 shaves - Finally, I got this straight blade down!!! Sharp, BBS, or nothing!!!
Next 5 shaves - Hey, I bet that straight razor shaves good too.....$$
Next many shaves - I arrived!!!
Cheers!

Thanked: 278First shave: This is a bit scary.
Next 3 shaves: Ow! Razor burn!
Next 3: This is OK, but needs to be closer.
Next 10: Close but not BBS.
Next 10: BBS but not everywhere.
Next 30: BBS almost everywhere.
Next 30+: BBS as much as I want, but still unable to shave as fast as I'd like to be able to.
(Not that I dislike taking a decent amount of time, I just want it to be out of choice rather than necessity.)
My progress was probably slowed by buying too many things and trying them out.

First shave: this isn't so hard, no cuts, not so close though.
2nd-6th : still no cuts, getting a bit braver, still not that close.
6th-15th : where are all these cuts coming from? some irritation too (still less that cartridge), but getting closer.
15th-30th : less cuts, less irritation, finally have a routine developing.
i took about a month break after that ( i now realise my razor was getting a bit dull) and used a DE and Injector (in hindsight it wasn't the best decision, as i lost any routine that i gained).
