PUll the trigger?
Found this Engels Warren Velvet Edge for $15 bucks. Probably barganable due to the rust. Looks like it would clean up with maas and elbow grease. What I'm concerned about is rust on the blade edge, will it hone off? I'm not too concerned about looks, I just want a good shaver, and at 35 (15 plus 20 for hone) an Engels seems like a deal. Unless it's f***ed.

I'm by no means an expert, but I believe that rust ON the bevel = bad bad news...but like I said, no expert.
Also, on a side note--you might want to download a file editor called Irfanview. When you do, try: open picture. click image menu. click resize. save as 640x480. This will make your pictures MUCh more manageable...this one is freaking HUGE!

Thanked: 3795The GoldEdge is definitely a buy.
The Engels is a crap shoot. It really just depends on how deep the rust goes on the edge. Maas and elbow grease will not be sufficient on the shoulder and tang. That's going to take more, and the route you take will depend on whether you want it pretty or just functional. It won't take too much work to make it functional. Try to get it for $5!

the edge needs to move beyond the rust. i don't believe this is considered a $20 honing job, it's way in restoration territory, but that's something the person who hones it will determine.
the picknick table hone wear makes it absolutely worthless for me.

Sorry about the Engels billboard- it is copyrighted, so you have a choice between a thumbnail and that. I agree its annoying, I will take it down as soon as I have a couple more advises (?) about it.
Is that goldedge really worth it? Even though it looks a tad under 5/8s and is missing some goldwash?

I'm with Utopian on this one. If you can get that Engels for $5 to $10, take it and put it away until you're ready to have a shot at cleaning and honing it yourself. If it comes out, you'll be well ahead of the game. If it doesn't you haven't lost much.
