Thanked: 1Virgin no more!
Had my first shave with a straight today. Started off with Proraso Pre, then lathered up with some MWF and went to town with an over priced Dovo Best that I picked up at a local shop (lack of patience for shipping won over frugality).
Not the smoothest shave I've had (didn't expect it to be), but it's a DFS and I didn't cut myself at least, even though it was hella awkward trying to shave with my left hand.
I have to say I really loved the feel of it all. It was a pleasant experience generally speaking. Not sure I want to go back to a DE now, but who knows. Maybe this will be just another part of a larger rotation.
I'm really looking forward to a nice long relationship with my straight and I know that as my stropping (and eventually honing) skills improve, along with my shaving technique in general, the shaves are just gonna get better.
For anyone who's still on the fence about trying a straight razor, come on in. The water's fine.

I am still learning the task myself and let me tell you you are doing an excellent job. I am on my fourth shave with a straight and I am just now cathing up with what a double edge can do for me.

Thanked: 1honestly I do way more damage to my face with a DE than I did with my straight. maybe it was the fear, I dunno. I think this is more suitable for me though because I can REALLY see what the angle of contact is, and it seems more maneuverable.

Hay arthur, I have cut myself shaving millions of times but never with a straight. 100% of the time its been with a double edge so I'm with you on that score.

Congrats and welcome to SRP and straight shaving. You're right, it only does get better with time.
