Thanked: 0Figured i'd update my old thread if anyone is interested.
First shave went very well as I said in the thread, since then its been horrible..haha not sure, beginners luck maybe??
Anyway, shave last night was great, better than the first time as it was smoother, and no nicks at all.
Got some creams coming from the gentlemans quarter, not sure if I can use the 'its cheaper' excuse with the wife anymore??
Again I say, thanks for all the great info in here! Helped me out a lot and made it so I didnt quit, hopefully all the next shaves are like the last one!

The quality of my shaves go up and down. Sometimes I think I've cracked it, and then the very next shave will be terrible. It's a little confusing

You survived that's a good start go slow stay patient and read the wiki every chance you get. The more time with razor in hand the more comfortable you'll become. Just don't get too comfortable accidents happen then too. Welcome hope to be hearing more from you soon

Thanked: 190Keep with it
I bought a Dovo Special from Jim as well. He gave good advice and got me started off in the right step.
SRP is great and helped me as well. Post any challenges you have and members will help you out as they did me. Now, I help out others as well as learn new things from others.
Little does your spouse know that theres more to straight shaving than just your first straight razor! These days, all of my purchases are covert.

As a newbie myself the only advice I can give is watch how you palce the blade against your skin. I keep banging the blade into my skin too hard and wide up with a cut.

Thanked: 0Ya, I did that the first couple of shaves, (place the blade hard against the skin) quickly stopped doing that. Its gonna take a while for me to get out of the usual shaving mentality of taking 5 min to shave.
The hardest problem I still have is my neck, since the hair seems to grow sideways there its almost impossible to get a wtg or atg shave as the point of the blade hits on the top of my neck/jaw line. A couple of xtg passes seems to work tho, plus being able to build good lather now is helping a lot!
thanks
