the same thing happened to me when I was getting my first straight & strop
luckily I noticed when I was driving home that day, that the postman's truck was one block over from my home....I promptly ran the block over with the slip in my hand and got the package right then and there!
whew! that was close!

Thanked: 0Str8ts & the USPS
Razorburne & mlp2347,
Ordered my first sr8t last Friday AM. P.O.box had pick-up notice in it about 6pm tonight. Hope it is the goods!! Will leave earlier for work tomorrow am to find out. Don't know what else it could be, unless my wife ordered something from somewhere. Gonna be dissapointed if it's not -- but that is very fast mail from Ohio to Oklahoma -- so it may be something else. I'm gonna be , or ! Will let you know tomorrow -- unless I'm busy shaving! Thanked: 293I just got notification that my new strop from KenRup is sitting on my doorstep. If it starts raining, I will be leaving work to go get it and hide it from SWMBO.

Thanked: 0Shavingmule in Oklahoma
sbrouwers,
Grew up in Webber's Falls, live in Fletcher now.
It was indeed 'the goods' I had ordered from SRD on Friday AM. FAST service. Ordered 5/8 carbon, clip point, ebony handle Dovo, SRD bowl, Wool Fat soap, & 3" strop. Tried it out last night. So-so shave, & cut myself several times. But, shaved my whole face.
Was 4th time I've tried a str8. Cut myself more than any of the first 3. First 3 were at a primitive camp w/out soap, & barely any hot water.
BUT, I did OK on the tough spots - chin, under nose. Did the damage on my right cheek -- and I am right handed! Most of the damage was by the point of the blade. Maybe I shudda gotta round point?
Will have to work on getting the lather right. That means going back & watching some of the vids again here at SRP. Too many bubbles in it at first, then got it good & thick -- but then it seemed to dry on my face, leaving a thick white film. Will just have to practice on getting it right. Beard grows slowly, so will have a few days to work on it.
Also, had a badger brush left over from several years back, when I tried dbl edged rzrs, so did not invest in one. Reckon I shudda, just so I would KNOW it is all lack of lather-building technique, rather than my questionable brush?
What do ya'll think? Right now, I figure it's lack of proper lather added to inexperience?
Thanks to Don & Lynn, and (I think it was) Don's wife, at SRD. She filled my order & got it too me on the double-quick.

Sounds like you didn't do such a bad job...you have to expect that you might get a bunch of so-so shaves in the beginning. There are tons of factors to nail down and in the beginning most people's technique pretty much stinks (blade angle, pressure, etc.)
This is up to you, but maybe begin with just the cheeks, until you solidify technique in that area. You can always finish with your usual method of shaving (DE). I know this is like telling a kid not to play with the toy he just got for Christmas, but you'll see this advice all over the forums for good reason....but it is up to you....I wish you good luck in your quest!
