I can vouch for either the Dovo Bismarck or the Dovo 5/8 spike point in ebony.

Got both from SRD, both are great shavers.

Mostly though it's personal preference. Anything honed by Lynn will give you a good shave, and all of the razors he and Don sell are quality.

Just pick something that's comfortable for your budget that you think he might like, and you're set.

Not really. That's a little like what is the best candy in a candy shop? It's personal preference based on what someone likes and what someone wants. My advice is to pick up the phone and call SRD and get their opinion (ie. that's a question for a salesman!)
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Ask kenrup. He makes beginner sets and the strop leather that comes with it is awesome, and judging by the blade he just sent me, the razor will be awesome too.

How experienced is your boyfriend with straight razors? Does he have a brush and/or proper shave soap? If no experience and no to the second question, I'd recommend finding him something with a round point (less chance of nicking himself with the point). The individual style of the scale depends on personal taste, and that's where you have to make the judgement call.

any razor that has been properly honed would be good.
a strop is necessary to keep the edge sharp between shaves.
a brush and soap/cream are a big step in beard preparation beyond the aerosole cans, so while not necessary it's very helpful.
