Thanked: 259this is really getting a little far fetched even for me. i could never understand why any man or woman would want to shave one's private regions. it not only makes one look prepubescent but may also have underlying tones that maybe should be taken up with a shrink as to the reason one would want to look like a child again.
oh well i guess i am just a knuckle dragging cave man and care not about my partners wants

I suppose I don't see what all the fuss is about. Grooming is grooming. What the difference is between shaving ones head, face, legs, chest, or undercarriage I just don't understand. I certainly wouldn't suggest taking a straight to your unmentionables without practice or certain flexibility for that matter, and as for the male regions, and "never letting your gf help" suit yourself, but I have never left anyone trailing their own blood. Safety razors are most definitely the best option for the majority of people, in my opinion. However, I think that some people are able to use straights without any lasting repercussions. It is most definitely a risk. So is taking one to your throat.

i have heard this arguement before, but i know that for me this isn't the case. i only chop down the hairs every 2-3 months when they get ridiculous, the g/f thinks the change is kinda cool, it is more comfortable for a bit. thats it. my old roomate and all his friends (i mean EVERY one of them, weird) always talked about how they wouldn't touch a girl that wasn't shaved clean. i thought it was ridiculous and immature, and a lie . they were very materialistic and i'm sure trying to impress one another as usual .
its a change of pace and not nearly as "weird" as some people think it is. no big deal really. but i would never use my SR, i have nicked myself before and it was the barely a nick as i am VERY careful, and man does it bleed. the DE plenty close enough, plus it is called a safety razor for a reason.

Thanked: 0Ever get a pube stuck in the back of your throat? Enough said.
And I agree with the "grooming is grooming" comment. I haven't started with a straight razor yet, and I can certainly say that I won't be going on any adventures with it until I at least figure out what I'm doing, but once I get good with it then I don't see why not. I mean, you use a straight to get the BBS and perfect lines, so why wouldn't you desire that same result everywhere else you shave as well?

First comment- Unless you're shaving EVERY day, you're not gonna be BBS all the time. So I just shave with the new quattro. get it down real closer with the buzzer thing. Safe and cheap, only like $8. (though I got mine free, Schick sent everyone in our frat a sample, probably cus once they hooked some guys they would be stuck buying blades, jokes on them, I got a free trimmer!)
Second comment- I am on a varsity rowing team and we spend a lot of time in the locker room, so we have all become very confident with our sexuality. And to be honest, it just looks I dunno, neater. I've been trimming since before it was overgrown, so I didn't really know what it would look like if you don't mow the lawn once in a while. I'm not saying completely bare, just, trimming the hedges to keep everything respectable, you know? Not just below the belt, all over your body. I don't believe in hairLESSness, just not being mountain men is all. Manscaping.
Third comment- Shaving/trimmer too close WILL lead to ingrown hairs due to the foldy/wrinkly nature of that skin. Don't give me any evidence otherwise. If it doesn't happen to you, you're lucky. Every guy on the team who goes down to the skin gets massive razor bumps and redness and ingrown hairs, and if I were a girl I would rather see a small amount of trimmed hair than someone who looks like they're going through a pubescent teenage breakout. In their pants.

a lot of interesting posts there. a few point I'd like to make:
1. shaving your dude-piston with a straight isn't any more or less dangerous than running a straight along your throat, a mere 2mm away from your jugular. If you know what you're doing, nothing serious will happen. a few nicks, at worst. for all those worrying about cutting it off... do you worry about cutting your head off when you shave with a straight? it's the same exact thing. takes a bit of practice, but once you are used to it, it's second nature.
2. there seems to be a roughly generational gap in opinions on whether it's a needed form of maintenance. this isn't terribly surprising to me, but the motivations behind it interest me. discuss.
3. to the poster who implied it suggests pedophilia... have you ever tried a south of the border shave? totally apart from aesthetics, it FEELS BETTER. on AND off the dance floor, if you know what I mean. having a long nasty beard is gross regardless of where the beard is growing. hence: shaving.

Thanked: 278I've avoided mentioning this, but now you raise the subject...
The nads are very well protected by a tough layer - normally. But if the scrotum is cut or torn it all becomes very vulnerable. There was a case of a man and woman fighting and at one point the man squeezed through a door while the woman was trying to hold it closed. He caught his scrotum on a nail sticking out of the doorframe and tore it. The injury wasn't bad in itself, but shortly after the woman swiped at his family jewels and they came off easily in her hands.
there seems to be a roughly generational gap in opinions on whether it's a needed form of maintenance. this isn't terribly surprising to me, but the motivations behind it interest me. discuss.

In fact it's worth noting that in olden times they would shave to get rid of lice then wear a merkin (pubic wig) to restore a normal look.

Yikes! DO be careful. An accident there would be hard to explain in the Emergency Room.
