    Smile DE or SR

My choice SR. I shaved with double edge razors for more than 45 years, it was boring, a waste of time. There were time that I wouldn't shave for days because it was boring! Then I remembered I had two SR a ROMO and a Hess 44. Dusted them off, honed them and the adventure began. I purchased a few more. learned how to hone, strop and shave properly with the SR. Now my hair can't grow fast enough to shave with a SR. A shave is an adventure in selecting the SR, stroppnig and shaving, even in making new scales when needed, exchanging scales between blades to fit the correct blade. Making the correct fitting leather pouches of wild exotic leathers and styles of pouches. Gathering the several stones needed to hone. More fun than a barrel of monkies. I am glad I rediscovered SR shaving. Juan.

Personal preference. We have members that use both.

I have a collection of Gillettes and a large collection of slant heads from many mfgs and eras. I loved DE shaving until I took up the straight. Now I haven't touched a DE in over a year. I love shaving with a straight so much that I shaved off my 20 years + mustache just to have one more thing to shave. Not ready for the head shaving yet but you never know.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I've got 9 DEs, 2 SEs, and 13 Rolls Razors(only 6 shaveworthy at the moment). I only have three str8s. I mix them all up in my rotation. I primarily use a str8 now, but when they get to the point that I feel the need to hone, I grab something else until I get the chance to hone them. I enjoy shaving with a straight razor immensely, but sometimes I like to use something different. At some point when I have more straights, and maybe thin out the rest of my collection, the safety razors will get less face time. But for now, I use them all!

I have a DE and an injector handy in case I have to shave in a hurry. They are better than multis but the shave doesn't last as long as my straights.

My vote is Straight Razor. DE's seem nice, I have no experience with them other than when a 'master barber' at Art of Shaving did me up real nice with one (I think, or was it injectable?)

Been str8 shaving only since June 3 but I think my shaves are already as good as they were with my mach III. I'm enjoying learning and figuring out the ins and outs of a str8. Trying to give myself plenty of time whenever I shave but in a pinch I may have to grab the quick one. To me right now that would be a shame.

A DE is great for when you are in a hurry or when you are travelling. It is something you can use without feeling like you are cheating on your straights.

Depends on what your idea of "faster" is. Right now I only do part of my face with a str8, so I finish up with a DE anyway. But in my travel bag is a DE, and that is what I use most of the time when traveling, but, on those occasions when I don't get to the hotel until very late, and I must be up early for an early breakfast meeting, I need all the sleep I can get, I whip out a gillette sensor that's in the bottom of the bag, becuase I don't even have time for a DE shave. I still use my brush and soap/cream, but need the speed of a cartridge.
