Question japanese style or western style SR

I am learning to master the western style razor at the moment. That does not mean I am not open to take a chance with a japanese style razor. Senior or junior members experienced with japanese style razors let me know the pros and cons of the razor. Any info will be appeiciated. Juan.

I'm pretty sure it was Russel. I don't fool with them yet because they are expensive and if I buy one made by one guy then I will want to buy one of each of the others. Add to that I don't know anything about them. They are a different animal. Different to hone and to shave with. thebigspendur, Old-School and tstebbins know about them.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For me an old vintage western style straight cannot be beat. Currently I'm on a heavy grind kick. Those a kinda similar to the stiffness of wa-kamisori.

Easier to use, every bit as sharp and as Gugi points out self storing.

    that's pro for occidentals.

I like my japanese razors because they are a little more hand made and demonstrate the art of bladesmithing on a slightly higher level than monosteel constructions imho.

they are somewhat more difficult to use, long blades are very expensive, lots of confusion about their use and maintenance

using them has not led to any mystical experiences

Actually once you learn to use a typical straight going to a traditional japanese Straight is like learning to use a straight all over again so starting out on one may be an advantage.

The pros are that you can get the best possible shave.

The cons are honing can be more difficult and they are more fussy to use.
